Marilyn Brock (she/her) has developed a career that spans the intersecting worlds of music, business, and academia. Brock currently serves as interim director and assistant teaching professor at the Entrepreneurship Center for Music (ECM) at the Î÷¹ÏÊÓÆµ, having also served as interim director in 2023–2024. Her prior teaching experience includes roles in CU Boulder’s College of Music and the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business.
A first-generation college graduate, Brock holds a PhD in Business, MBA and MA in Musicology from the University of Denver, as well as a BM in Voice from Pittsburg State University. Her research explores how entrepreneurs and organizational leaders – particularly within the arts sector – respond to social, cultural and political issues such as sexism, gender-based violence and political controversy. Her areas of expertise include servant leadership, stakeholder theory and feminist theories.Ìý
Prior to pursuing a career in academia, Brock’s work encompassed fundraising and events management for organizations such as Seattle Opera, Canto Deo Choirs and the Boulder Philharmonic. As a mezzo-soprano, Brock has performed at an array of American and European venues, including New York City’s David Geffen Hall. Concurrent with her work in music, nonprofit management and higher education, she has also held a Colorado real estate license since 2019 and is an Associate Broker at Simply Denver Homes.Ìý
An advocate for equity and community engagement, Brock has also volunteered with several Front Range arts and nonprofit organizations. She served as Marketing Committee Chair for the Colorado Symphony Associate Board and as Director of Finance and Development for Nebula Ensemble, which she successfully established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. She currently serves as President of the Rose Andom Center’s Young Professionals Council.Ìý
A sought-after speaker and career advisor, she has presented for organizations and events such as the Society for Arts Entrepreneurship Education Annual Conference, CU Boulder and the University of Denver. Brock resides in Boulder, Colorado with her rescue cat, Fenice. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, traveling, attending local concerts and endeavoring to improve her Italian and Spanish language skills.
