AI Strategic Steering Committee

In order to provide coordination and thoughtful implementation of AI at CU Boulder, Marin Stanek, along with Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Massimo Ruzzene and Vice Chancellor and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Assessment Katherine Eggert, have formed a campus-wide AI strategic steering committee. This committee has representation from research, teaching and learning, and administrative and operational disciplines within our campus and assist with the creation of resources and guidance to campus users as well as the formation of an AI community of practice.Ìý

Timeline of Initiatives

Here’s a timeline highlighting some of the campus AI activities sponsored by the AI Strategic Steering Committee, the AI Community of Practice and the Boulder Faculty Assembly (BFA):

Spring 2023

Spring 2024

  • OIT formed their AI Steering Team and received approval for the AI Coordination project charter.
  • The CU Boulder AI Strategic Steering Committee was formed and includes representation from research, teaching and learning, and administrative domains.

Summer 2024

Fall 2024

  • The AI @ CU Boulder Showcase was the first event hosted by the AI CoP featuring speakers from across the CU campus.
  • CU’s Center for Teaching & Learning and ASSETT launched the AI Literacy Ambassadors program with representation from 14 faculty members.
  • OIT vetted and approved for purchase to faculty and staff.
  • The AI Strategic Steering Committee receives approval for the LLM Gateway Pilot project charter.

Spring 2025

  • The Boulder Faculty Assembly and Center for Teaching and Learning working group publishedÌýnew AI Use Syllabus Guidance for CU Boulder faculty.
  • The secondÌýAI @ CU Boulder Showcase was hosted by the AI CoP featuring Steffie Ungphakorn (Leeds staff), Bobby Hodgkinson (Aerospace faculty), and Paul Blythe (Leeds research) discussing the roles and possibilities of AI in their work.
  • OIT vetted and approved and for faculty, staff and student use.
  • OIT approvedÌý for use with confidential university data.
  • OIT’s AI Steering Team received approval for theÌýnebualONE Pilot project charter.
  • CU’s Center for Teaching & Learning and ASSETT hosted the Spring Ambassador’s Innovation Project Showcase concluding the first ambassador cohort.
  • The NAIRR Pilot User Experience Working Group hosted a sold out workshop,ÌýAI Unlocked: Empowering Higher Ed through Research and Discovery, on April 2nd & 3rd, 2025 in Denver, Colorado.
