Courtney Conrad

Artist Statement

My work explores the perspectives of women and feminine-presenting individuals, focusing on the complex intersections of gender, identity, and society. I am particularly interested in examining the evolving definition of womanhood in contemporary American culture and how societal and political forces shape the modern experience of women. As a feminine child growing up in military culture, I encountered first-hand the misogynistic beliefs prevalent in American society.听

My practice allows me to delve into women's outdated obligations, using traditionally feminine arts such as sewing, knitting, and performance. I use soft fabrics, gentle colors, and domestic objects to evoke the feeling of 鈥渉ome.鈥 Creating a warm, inviting, and caring atmosphere is critical to the fabric of my work.听
